Teresa Shannon Appropriation 9/25/13:

I came across this photo and was intrigued by the process that California-based artist David Palmer used to transform pictures that he clearly never took into works of art using empty bullet casings.  While I think this is on the far spectrum of image appropriation because the artist is not manipulating a photography per-se it is still a very intriguing idea of using another persons work and transforming it into his own art piece.  The idea of using shell casings to compose an image of men who died by gunshot wounds gives provides another level of depth to the work of David Palmer.  To create his work he arranges the casings and then uses a torch to burn and darken the areas creating much loved faces. The series includes images of John Lennon, Tupac Shakur, Abraham Lincoln, and John F. Kennedy.
